Each garment is made in colourful and uplifting child friendly fabric and is designed to minimise discomfort when medical intervention is necessary. Your child can remain fully dressed, safe and warm whilst being examined and throughout their stay in hospital.
Evidence has shown that our garments help to alleviate the stress of being in hospital. They allow poorly children to retain a sense of their own identity. Our gowns let children be children and not just patients. Visiting a sick child in hospital can have a profound impact on siblings and relatives, feedback from parents and healthcare professionals tells us that our gowns make the visits less clinical, the hospital wards less intimidating.
Many children require long-term and repeat procedures, something as simple as wearing an individual, fun and colourful gown can act as a distraction and provide a focus away from the often harsh reality of the situation.
The garments are available from small newborn size (1-3 lbs) up to age 16. Matching adult garments are available when a shared procedure is necessary e.g a transplant procedure between parent and child. In most instances we are able to tailor garments for children requiring additional medical needs or to accommodate equipment, casts etc.
All garments are lovingly sewn by our volunteer Fairies in 100% cotton and do not contain any glitter or metallic embellishments so are safe to wear during scans and x-rays. All garments are quality checked before being sent.
The hospital gowns are designed to do up at the back with ties (poppered tabs for sizes 12-18 months and under) but can be worn also with the ties at the front (reversible). The shoulder seams have poppers so that the child can be changed or undressed whilst lying down with minimal disturbance.
The pyjamas are available in full length long or cropped length.
We always use bright and cheerful fabric in age appropriate prints. We can often modify garments to accommodate special requests e.g. to accommodate a limb in plaster or medical equipment. We never use fabric containing negative images such as skulls and we do not allow any food-related images (cup-cakes, fruit, sweets etc) for garments over 12 months as many children will be nil-by-mouth.
